All the good people of Caldicot Rugby Club who are no longer with us

Ray "Ozzie" Williams 1951 - 2008

This web site is dedicated to the memory of Ray "Ozzie" Williams who died suddenly on 23nd February 2008. Ray captained the school , youth and senior teams at Caldicot before taking on the role of coach, committee man and eventually Chairman of Caldicot Rugby Club from 2003 until he died suddenly of cancer in February 2008.

Ray was a very talented rugby player and excelled at every position he played in - from hooker to back row through to all the threequater positions. He played a few games for the senior Newport side but his heart was really with Caldicot Rugby. He and Caldicot were very lucky to have a truly talented rugby team in the 1970's and early 1980's winning many cups and competitions. One of Ray's proudest moments was leading Caldicot out onto Cardiff Arms Park against Cross Keys United in the Welsh Brewers Cup Final of 1976.

Ray's qualities as player, chairman, family and business man persuaded many people to put something back into the club after a long period of struggle both on and off the pitch. Today the club is prospering on all fronts. Ray was happy and willing to give something back to the community in which he lived. All in all a genuinely good man.
